Thai activist group stages protest in front of Malaysian Embassy

A LARGE number of activists from United Power of the Land for Defending Sovereignty group gathered at the Malaysian embassy this morning (Nov. 22) and intend to head to the US embassy to stage a similar rally to protest claimed interference by Malaysia and US in Thailand’s defence of its sovereignty, Amarin TV said.

The protesters also criticised both countries for allegedly not being neutral.

In rallying in front of the Malaysian embassy they brandished large vinyl banners with images of US President Donald Trump, Malaysian Prime Minister and Asean chair Anwar Ibrahim and senior Cambodian leader Hun Sen with the message “A threat to Thai national security” emblazoned on it. Additionally among some placards were smaller ones with the message “Stop interfering with Thailand and the Asean Chair must be neutral”.

The protesters also waved Thai flags as a symbolic patriotic gesture.

Meanwhile, police from Metropolitan Police Bureau 5, Thung Mahamek police station, and riot control officers were deployed to maintain security and order, including traffic control on Sathorn Nuea road. They also erected a metal barrier in front of the embassy entrance to keep the protesters out.
