MORE details have emerged about special privileges granted to Chinese inmates at Bangkok Remand Prison with one of 20 officials transferred saying that it was built eight months ago with these deep-pocketed Chinese inmates paying 2 million baht for the construction, Naewna newspaper said this evening (Nov. 25).
Ms. Phongsawat Neelayothin, permanent secretary of the Justice Ministry, who earlier signed an order transferring the former director of this prison, Mr. Manop Chomchuen, and 19 other officials yesterday temporarily suspended him and the secretary to the prison director amid snowballing scandal that Chinese women were brought to the prison for sex with VIP Chinese inmates.
Pol. Lt. Col. Prawut Wongsinin, director-general of the Department of Corrections, revealed that this room, which is under a staircase, was not used at all except for Sundays some weeks.
This room is a very special privilege for Chinese inmates way above the others in this prison. Guards would go across the prison to buy food for these VIP inmates from a restaurant owned by some prison officials and also serve these .
This is on top of providing them with electrical appliances such as refrigerators and microwave ovens to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
Importantly, every Sunday correctional officials brought Chinese women from the airport to provide sexual services to the Chinese inmates.
