AFTER days of critical inundation floodwaters began steadily receding in Hat Yai today (Nov. 27) with vehicles and boats now able to reach all communities and authorities urgently delivering supplies as a large number of residents have been living in cold weather, with no sunlight, no electricity and no food or water for days, TV Channel 7 and Naewna newspaper said.
Facebook user Than Pao posted photos of some areas of this southern city where floodwaters have drained with this message, “Unforgettable images of the devastation after floodwaters receded in Hat Yai. Many streets were covered in mud, garbage and debris swept in by the floodwaters. Strong currents had also smashed cars against walls. Shops, buildings, restaurants and famous hotels are severely affected. It’s hard to believe this was a once-bustling city centre street.
“This isn’t just ‘a major flooding’ but ‘an enormous scar of damage’ that will take a long time to recover. I’d like to give my support to the people of Songkhla and Hat Yai. We will get through this together…”
