OVER 937,000 VOTERS have requested to go to the polls inside Thailand and outside one week before schedule, according to today’s (Jan.2) report of the Election Commission.
A total of 937,061 eligible voters have filed their formal requests to cast their early votes on Feb.1 instead of Feb.8 which is scheduled for the nationwide election for MPs in both constituency-based and party-listed modes.
Those early voters include 856,813 who have wished to cast their votes outside of their respective constituencies on Feb.1, 75,631 who are currently residing in foreign countries worldwide on Feb.8 and 4,617 who have wished to go to the polls in their respective constituencies on Feb.1, according to the polling agency.
Nevertheless, no voters are allowed to take part in a public referendum in regard to the constitution in early fashion as otherwise provided for their votes for constituency-based and party-listed contestants.
Apart from the election of the lawmakers, the voter will be given the ballot on which they will tick out as to whether they may agree to the proposed making of a new constitution in lieu of the currently enforcing, coup junta-designed charter.
The constitution ballot will be handed out to the voter on Feb.8 – the same day as for the MPs election after they have literally cast their votes for the candidates vying in both modes.
Any eligible voters who are currently living abroad and may wish to go to the polls outside of this country or those who may wish to cast their votes outside of their respective constituencies in this country are allowed by law to do so in case of the public referendum on the constitution issue but can by no means do so earlier than Feb.8.
