People’s launches roving campaign in all regions

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE PEOPLE’S TODAY (Jan.30) launched a roving campaign in all parts of the country to woo votes from constituents as the current run-up to Feb.8 election is coming to the final week.

The reformist camp’s weeklong roving campaign literally diverged into eight routes covering all regions until Feb.6 the date on which they plan to hold a final, major platform in Chiang Mai held as a campaign hub for the northern region, Khon Kaen for the northeastern region, Songkhla for the southern region and Bangkok for the central and eastern regions.

Joining on the truck-mounted, provincial campaign trails are ex-Future Forward leader/ex-MP Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, ex-Future Forward MPs Piyabut Saengkanokkul and Pannika Wanich, ex-Move Forward leader/ex-MP Chaithawat Tulanon and ex-People’s MPs Rangsiman Rome, Rukchanok Srinork, Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, Pakhamon Nunanan and Parit Wacharasindhu, among others.

People’s leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut, one of a trio of partisan contestants for prime minister, said his party’s rank and file cannot afford to get carried away and stay reckless by the latest opinion polls which have ostensibly registered a sustained, prevailing popularity for the People’s with himself being the most favourite to be named prime minister whilst the Bhumjaithai, currently core of the caretaker government under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, remains as the People’s biggest archrivals vying in the nationwide election.

All votes in both constituency-based and party-listed modes will literally count in effort to score overwhelming triumphs for the reformist camp in the nationwide race to parliament, he remarked.

Meanwhile, the latest NIDA Poll conducted recently among 2,500 people nationwide has still found the People’s as the most popular and the reformist camp’s leader Nattapong the most favourite for prime minister after the Feb.8 election.

The reliable opinion poll has found 29.08% of the respondents say they prefer Nattapong be named head of a post-election government, followed by 22.24% who say they prefer Caretaker Prime Minister/Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul remain in power after the nationwide election, 12.52% prefer Democrat leader/former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva return to power and 12.12% prefer de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra’s nephew Yodchanan Wongsawat be named head of a post-election government whilst 9.36% say they are undecided as yet.

In constituency-based mode of the election, 33.56% of the respondents say they will vote People’s candidates, followed by 22.76% who say they will vote Bhumjaithai contestants, 16.92% say they will choose Pheu Thai contenders and 12.76% say they will pick Democrat contestants, according to the latest NIDA Poll.

In party-listed mode, 34.20% of the respondents say they will pick the reformist People’s, compared to 22.60% who say they will opt for the ultra-conservative Bhumjaithai, 16.20% for the neo-conservative Pheu Thai and 13.20% for the Old School conservative Democrats, according to the poll.
