TWO new features have been added to the Police Care application to further help the public fend off scammers as they can now check these cybercriminals’ bank account and phone numbers, Naewna newspaper said this afternoon (Feb. 2).
Ms. Airin Panrit, deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, said the government is working on raising awareness about online fraud and cyberscams but despite having integrated action against these criminals, such crimes still occur distressing the public.
The government, through the police, has developed Police Care app for the public to use with this featuring various police services including legal knowledge, preparing to file a police report, scam alerts, finding nearby police stations, a citizen’s guide, account freezing, online reporting, and verifying police officers.
The app, which can be downloaded via Play Store and Apple Store, recently added two new features: “Check Scammers’ Accounts” and “Check Scammers’ Phone Numbers.”
This is linked to an online complaint database on fraudsters’ bank account numbers and their phone numbers and helps the public verify information and fend off cyberattacks.
Upon opening the Police Care app, users should go to “Check My Information” and then log in with their Thai ID number after which type in the suspicious phone or bank account number with the system quickly processing the information, revealing whether it belongs to a scammer. If it is a risky bank account, a warning message will appear saying “Scammer” or “Dangerous!” “Absolutely no transfers allowed.”
