RAYONG – THE PITUTECHA Family, largely known as one of the “Big Houses” in the eastern province, are evidently divided in a quiet tug-of-war as the Feb.8 election is only half a week away with one helping a contestant running in constituency-based mode against a rival candidate endorsed by another of the same family.
Former deputy public health minister/ex-Democrat MP Sathit Pitutecha is assisting Democrat contestant Sarawut Lumcharoen vying in Constituency 4 against ex-People’s MP Chutipong Pipoppinyo who is seeking re-election under the reformist party’s tickets and Bhumjaithai contender Chatchai Pitutecha who is being assisted by Rayong provincial administrative head Piya Pitutecha, among others.
In Constituency 3, Sathit is also helping Democrat contestant Pasin Pitutecha who is vying against ex-People’s MP Pongsathorn Sornpetnarin who is seeking re-election under the reformist camp’s banners, among others.
Both Chatchai and Pasin are nephews of the Pitutecha brothers Piya and Sathit, the latter of whom is simultaneously seeking re-election in party-listed mode under the Democrat tickets.
In the 2023 election, all those Pitutecha family members including the Democrat-attached, former deputy public health minister had been defeated by the ex-People’s contestants who had scored overwhelming victories over all five constituencies of the eastern province. The People’s had grabbed 18 out of a total 29 eastern constituencies sending their respective contestants to parliament in the previous election.
