Israeli man nabbed in Koh Phangan nominee crackdown

AN ISRAELI man was arrested as soon as he arrived at Koh Samui Airport this morning (June 10) on charges of using Thai nominees to buy a plot of land on Koh Phangan, TV Channel 7 said.

The arrest of Mr. Eden Alisa, 30, is part of an operation to dismantle illegal nominee networks on Koh Phangan launched mid-May which led to the issuance of arrest warrants for 45 suspects with 27 apprehended and 18 still to be chased.

Police found out that Alisa, who is a shareholder of a company and had fled the country before the arrest warrant for him was issued on May 21, was arriving at Koh Samui Airport at 10.30 a.m. and arrested him just as he disembarked.

During initial question, the suspect confessed to being the person named in the arrest warrant and that he had hired an accounting firm to register his company with Thai nominees they had roped in as his fake shareholders in order to register the ownership of a plot of land on Koh Phangnan, intending to build vacation home there in future.

The arresting officers then handed him over to the investigating officers at Koh Phangan police station for legal proceedings.

Investigation is being expanded to dismantle this criminal network, including the accounting firm, with this suspect’s Thai nominees having already admitted to helping him buy the land plot.
