Speculated Pheu Thai landslide win ‘won’t be affected by Chinese-born criminal case’

THE PHEU THAI PARTY’s chances of scoring a landslide victory in the next general election will be by no means affected by the crimes perpetrated by a Chinese-born suspect alleged to have been somehow associated with the largest opposition party, according to a senior Pheu Thai member.

Noppadon Pattama, deputy head for Pheu Thai strategic campaigns, categorically dismissed allegations that the Chinese-born drug-dealing and money-laundering suspect, identified as Chaiyanat Kornchaiyanan alias Tu Hao, had been connected in one way or another with the Pheu Thai rank and file though he had reportedly managed to buy some pricey houses from SC Asset Corp., the real estate firm of which Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra, currently is among the shareholders.

Paetongtarn, who is largely speculated to be named among a trio of Pheu Thai partisan candidates for head of a post-election government, is merely a shareholder and not an executive official of the real estate firm, Noppadon said.

“A landslide victory for our party and the Tu Hao case are by no means correlated. But we must respect the people’s decisions as to whether their votes will finally land us the landslide victory,” Noppadon said.

He said the allegations involving the Chinese-born criminal suspect “groundlessly” launched against the Pheu Thai may only have been a smear campaign during a current run-up to the nationwide election in which the largest opposition camp is speculated to win most of a total 500 MP seats among all contesting parties.

According to the deputy head for Pheu Thai strategic campaigns, SC Asset Corp. had by no means broken the law pertaining to the sales of the firm’s real estate anywhere though the detained suspect may have practically had some nominees buy them on his behalf.

Nevertheless, the Pheu Thai might probably take legal action against those who may have raised such accusations in public against any members of the party, he said.
