VILLAGERS were urgently evacuated at around noon today (Sep. 27) after Thai and Cambodian troops started clashing at Chong An Ma in Ubon Ratchathani province, Amarin TV said.
There was chaos at Dom Pradit subdistrict, Nam Yuen district, when Thai soldiers ordered villagers to quickly evacuate as a new clash had erupted.
At 12.03 p.m. Khmer troops first opened fire with machine guns with the Thai side retaliating with similar weapons. Khmer troops then fired grenade launchers with Thai troops retaliating in kind.
A little later the Cambodian Defence Ministry quickly issued a statement accusing the Thai military of attacking Khmer forces first at Chong An Ma while emphasising their country’s commitment to complying with the ceasefire.
The Cambodian statement said that at approximately 11:52 a.m., the Thai military began attacking Cambodian forces, firing mortars and small arms at a Cambodian military base in the Anse (Chong An Ma) area. The Cambodian military will continue to monitor the situation with the utmost caution and diligence, and is ready to defend its territorial integrity.
