THE Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 Forward Command issued a warning for the public to avoid driving through or near petrol pumps unless absolutely necessary after 11 of them in the three Far South provinces were bombed and set ablaze late last night (Jan. 10), PPTVHD36 said today.
Security forces are currently controlling the situation and conducting a thorough investigation of these attacks. As of now, there have been 511 bombings at 11 petrol pumps in Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces.
The public was urged to cooperate and remain at home until further notice while not panicking and only follow information issued by ISOC Region 4 Forward Command and other government agencies. This is to prevent the spread of inaccurate information that may create confusion in the area.
Those who find anything unusual or suspicious were urged to report to the 24-hour hotline 1341 or to the nearest ISOC Region 4 Forward Command task force unit.
Details of the attacks are as follows:
1/ Narathiwat (5 locations):
– Petrol pump, Moo 4, Ban Khok, Chuap subdistrict, Cho Airong district;
– Petrol pump, Dusongnyo subdistrict, Chanae district;
– Petrol pump, Ra-ngae district;
– Petrol pump, Waeng district;
– Petrol pump, Suai Ngai Kolok district.
2/ Pattani (2 locations):
– Petrol pump, Mueang district;
– Petrol pump, Kapho district.
3/ Yala (4 locations):
– Petrol pump, Kabang district;
– Petrol pump, Bannang Sata district;
– Two petrol pumps, Mueang district.
Furthermore, Lt. Gen. Norathip Poynok, Fourth Army Region commander and director of ISOC Region 4, has ordered the highest level of security measures, with readiness to respond to any situation 24 hours a day.
He has also convened an urgent meeting of all relevant agencies to monitor progress and expedite the apprehension of the perpetrators.
At a PTT petrol pump in Narathiwat’s Cho Airong district that had just been opened a few months ago an explosion was heard followed by a fire spreading out but there were no reports of injuries or fatalities.
Following the incident, Pol. Maj. Gen. Prayong Kotrasakha, commander of Narathiwat Provincial Police, along with security forces, cordoned off the area for safety. They are waiting for forensic investigators to examine the scene thoroughly to determine the cause and gather evidence. Relevant agencies have intensified security measures in the area for the safety of the public.
