People’s to retain highest popularity among all contesting camps

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE PEOPLE’S will likely retain the highest popular status among all parties contesting tomorrow’s (Feb.8) general election to emerge as the largest elected camp, winning most out of a total 500 MP seats, followed by the Bhumjaithai, currently core of the caretaker government, according to informed sources.

Given sustained partisan popularity and personal hypes, the reformist party will likely not only grab most of the total 100 party-listed but most of the total 400 constituency-based MP seats to emerge as the largest elected one, thus earning the righteous opportunity to set up a post-election government though it will be up to anyone’s guess as to exactly how many MP seats the People’s-led executive branch may have for support whilst the People’s leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut will be consequently named Thailand’s 33rd prime minister, either with or without the Bhumjaithai as coalition partner.

The People’s is largely anticipated to win a total of about 180 to 200 MP seats to maintain their highest popular status held since the 2023 election being the largest elected among all contesting parties, given a range of 50 to 60 in party-listed mode plus a range of 130 to 140 in constituency-based mode and the undeniable potential to become core of a government though it remains to be seen whether any parties other than the Bhumjaithai may be brought into coalition headed by the former.

Meanwhile, the Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob who sent Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul running under the ultra-conservative party’s tickets to remain in power after the nationwide election will likely come out as the second largest elected one with a range of 110 to 130 MP seats – about a dozen in party-listed mode and a range of 100 to 120 in constituency-based mode.

Predicted to come out as the third elected camp is the Pheu Thai under de facto party boss/inmate Thaksin Shinawatra whose nephew Yodchanan Wongsawat is contesting for prime minister with a range of 80 to 90 MP seats – about 15 in party-listed mode and a range of 65 to 75 in constituency-based mode.

The Klatham under de facto party boss Thammanat Prompao is forecast to emerge as the fourth largest elected securing a range of 30 to 40 MP seats with just a few including himself in party-listed mode and the Democrats led by former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva as the fifth largest elected grabbing a range of 20 to 30 MP seats.

The reformist People’s contestants are forecast to be the overwhelmingly largest elected in all 33 Bangkok constituencies, most of the constituencies of the capital’s outlying provinces as well as most eastern constituencies, plus many northern and central constituencies, some northeastern and a few southern constituencies.

The ultra-conservative Bhumjaithai is predicted to sweep most lower northeastern constituencies, some upper northeastern constituencies, most central constituencies, many western and southern constituencies and some eastern constituencies.

The neo-conservative Pheu Thai is anticipated to secure most upper northeastern constituencies, many northern constituencies as well as some central and western constituencies whilst the ultra-conservative Klatham is more or less expected to grab many northern and southern constituencies as well as some central and western constituencies and the Old School conservative Democrats are speculated to grab many southern constituencies.

Over 80% of a total of about 52 million eligible voters are expected to go to the polls nationwide tomorrow, compared to 75% in the previous election.
