Klatham tipped to be brought in Bhumjaithai-led govt without Thammanat in cabinet

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE KLATHAM might probably be brought in a Bhumjaithai-led coalition government on condition that de facto Klatham boss Thammanat Prompao be ultimately kept out of a future cabinet of ministers, according to a partisan source today (Feb.19).

Due to sustained scandals surrounding his alleged personal association with transnational scam and money-laundering suspects such as the likes of Benjamin Mauerberger alias Ben Smith, the de facto Klatham boss would probably be barred from being named member of a Bhumjaithai-led cabinet headed by Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul whilst others among his party’s rank and file could probably be named ministers in charge of varied portfolios.

Fears over the possibility of bringing Thammanat in the post-election cabinet of ministers apparently remained to the extent that Anutin who concurrently acts as leader of the Bhumjaithai, core of the newly-formed coalition government, could probably be impeached and deprived of power if found guilty of severely breaching the politician’s code of ethics by naming the de facto Klatham boss a member of his future cabinet as had been the 2024 case of former Pheu Thai-attached prime minister Srettha Thavisin who was immediately ousted of power at the order of the Constitutional Court after he had named a former convict, namely Pichit Chuenban, a member of his cabinet.

Though Thammanat who concurrently acts in caretaker fashion as deputy prime minister-cum-agriculture & cooperatives minister had apparently backed down from his thinly-veiled demands to continue to be in charge of the agriculture portfolio, de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob had ultimately resolved to keep the de facto Klatham boss at bay whilst accepting the ultra-conservative Klatham as a whole onto the potential bandwagon of the newly-formed coalition government, the partisan source said.

Speculated among the Klatham rank and file to be named ministers in charge of varied portfolios under the Anutin II cabinet are Klatham leader/Education Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat, the party’s secretary-general Pai Lick, the party’s strategic director Anudit Nakornthap and Thammanat’s brother/Social Development & Human Security Minister Akhara Prompao, among others.

The ultra-conservative Bhumjaithai-led government reportedly secures solid support from a majority of nearly 300 out of a total 500 designate lawmakers and currently consists of a dozen coalition partners most of which being splinter parties with only one or a few designate-MPs each in addition to those of the Pheu Thai under de facto party boss/inmate Thaksin Shinawatra. The potential coalition force includes 193 Bhumjaithai designate-MPs and 74 Pheu Thai designate-MPs, among others.
