PRIME MINISTER Anutin Charnvirakul today (April 15) confirmed that Thai-Cambodian border crossings at Trat and Chanthaburi have not yet been reopened nor have there been diplomatic discussions between the two countries, PPTVHD36 said.
Meanwhile Cambodia denied reports that it asked Thailand to reopen the border for emergency goods, saying it is Thailand’s responsibility to open it as they are the one who unilaterally closed it, Cambodianess.com said.
Cambodian Defence Ministry spokesperson Malay Socheata expressed strong disappointment and firmly rejected claims repeatedly posted on social media and Thai media outlets that “Cambodia has requested the opening of the border for emergency goods.”
Socheata said that such information is false and contrary to the facts and appears to be intentionally spread to mislead national and international public opinion.
“Cambodia remains ready to respond appropriately and accordingly,” she said, calling for vigilance and to avoid being misled by such false and misleading information by carefully verifying sources.
In confirming that the border remained closed, Anutin said he had not received any reports on the matter while emphasising that it is not the right time to reopen the crossings.
He also indicated that any attempt to revive relations would have to start from scratch.
Right now there are no diplomats at the embassy with only caretakers looking after it and everything must be done gradually with a revival of relations being necessary before any further discussions could take place, he added.
