A TRAIN collided with a bus sparking a fierce fire at Rama 9 – Asoke-Phetchaburi intersection near Makkasan railway crossing with many people reported injured, PPTVHD36 said this afternoon (May16).
At 3.40 p.m. police radio station FM91 Trafficpro broadcast the accident and urged the public to avoid the area. Rama 199 radio centre also reported at 3.51 p.m. that officials were alerted of a fire involving a public bus near the Makkasan Airport Rail Link station on Asoke-Din Daeng road.
When firefighters from Phaya Thai Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene, they found a fierce blaze raging and intermittent explosions. Initial reports indicate that several public buses, cars, and motorcycles were damaged.
Preliminary information suggests multiple injuries from the accident. Firefighters are currently spraying water to control the blaze, providing assistance and transporting the injured to hospitals. The exact number of injuries and fatalities has not yet been confirmed.
Deputy Transport Minister Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat said initial reports indicate the bus stopped at a red light on the railway tracks, preventing the crossing barrier from lowering. In addition, the train involved in the accident was carrying heavy containers and was unable to brake in time, resulting in the accident. This is a Bangkok Mass Transit Authority bus with the number of passengers still being verified.
