PRIME MINISTER Anutin Charnvirakul today (Aug.27) implied that the Pheu Thai, the second largest coalition partner of the Bhumjaithai-led government, could possibly be replaced by the patiently-awaiting Klatham following a future censure motion against himself and his cabinet.
Without elaborating, the prime minister hinted that the Pheu Thai surreptitiously steered by de facto party boss Thaksin Shinawatra might possibly be replaced by the Klatham led by a rebellious Thammanat Prompao following censure debate and subsequent votes of confidence and no-confidence in the House of Representatives which could possibly occur at any given date from now until later this year in case that the Pheu Thai MPs abstain from voting or even vote against him or any members of his cabinet and finally withdraw themselves from the Bhumjaithai-led coalition.
“Do not just count on the numbers (of MPs) that might account for less than half the total if they might not cast a yea vote because it wouldn’t be that easy. Do not worry about it,” Anutin told reporters in apparent reference to the Pheu Thai MPs who might possibly break ranks with the Bhumjaithai MPs and other coalition lawmakers attached to splinter parties.
Following the future censure debate and confidence/no-confidence votes, Newin’s camp could not ultimately afford to remain as a minority government if Thaksin’s camp pulled out, thus being prompted sooner than later to bring in Thammanat’s camp to maintain a coalition government with a supportive majority of MPs.
Thammanat’s camp with 58 MPs at his command would be undoubtedly necessary to fill in the current coalition led by the Bhumjaithai with 191 MPs under hush-hush command of de facto party boss Newin Chidchob and possibly left vacant by Thaksin’s camp with 74 MPs to maintain the command of a simple majority of elected lawmakers at parliament, according to the prime minister.
Anutin was responding to the refueled possibility that Thaksin might tell his Pheu Thai MPs to abstain from casting a vote of confidence for the Bhumjaithai prime minister or any other Bhumjaithai ministers in the face of the 2024 senatorial rigging scandals in which they have been allegedly one way or another involved.
Former Pheu Thai leader Chonlanan Srikaew has reportedly agreed to join a panel discussion held somewhere on the upcoming Saturday by the People’s leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut on the notorious, electoral rigging conspiracy.
