Thaksin, Thanathorn, Thammanat urged to set up new coalition govt without Newin’s camp

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

DE FACTO Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra, de facto People’s boss Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit and Klatham boss-cum-leader Thammanat Prompao may hold a tete-a-tete talk between themselves to contemplate setting up a future coalition government of their own without the Bhumjaithai as core of the current one, according to a noted academic.

Rangsit University’s Political Science Doctorate Programme Director Thirapat Serirangsan has strongly suggested that the trio hold a private meeting between themselves to consider setting up a brand-new coalition government of their own with solid support from all the People’s, Pheu Thai and Klatham MPs combinedly accounting for 252 of the total 500 MPs.

In that fashion, dozens of MPs from splinter parties may turn to join the bandwagon of the trio of major parties which could make a majority of lawmakers in support of a new coalition government, the Rangsit academic said.

For starters, Thirapat advised Thaksin to manage to have all his Pheu Thai cabinet members and lawmakers withdraw themselves from the current coalition government headed by the Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob and then jump onto a jointly-steered bandwagon of the trio of other major parties.

According to the Rangsit academic, Thaksin may talk Thammanat into giving up his hopes of joining the Bhumjaithai-led coalition at any time and instead jumping onto the trio’s bandwagon as soon as the Pheu Thai eventually pull out of the current government, immediately turning the 191-MPs-strong Bhumjaithai into core of a minority government with less than half the total MPs on their side.

Thirapat pointed out that the Bhumjaithai-led government under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has been so riddled with critical, unresolved corruption and incompetency issues that it is now time the Pheu Thai pulled out of the current coalition.

The prime minister is not legally empowered to dissolve the House of Representatives to call a general election either after a censure motion has been formally lodged at parliament against him or after he has been possibly outvoted in a subsequent no-confidence vote or failed to keep at least half the total MPs on his side.

Given the possibility that Anutin might be practically deposed from power as an aftermath of a no-confidence vote cast against him, the House is obliged to find someone to take his place and steer the helm of government shortly.

However, the People’s having more MPs than the Pheu Thai and Klatham notwithstanding, Thirapat recommended that Thanathorn manage to have Nattapong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People’s, currently core of the opposition bloc, give way for Thaksin’s nephew/Higher Education, Science, Research & Innovation Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat to be named head of a future government.

He advised the People’s to completely forget about their previous stands against Thammanat and to join the future alliance between the trio of major parties without Newin’s camp. The Klatham boss-cum-leader had been invariably accused of being covertly connected with scamming, money-laundering suspects and other rogue businesspersons.

Importantly, the outspoken academic commented that Thailand’s powers-that-be already have had enough of the “Blue” regime and would readily welcome a future resurrection of an elected government with the Pheu Thai as core of coalition partners either with the People’s as a coalition partner or without.
