Central Administrative Court accepts lawsuit over barcoded, QR coded ballots

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE CENTRAL Administrative Court has accepted a lawsuit filed in pursuit of the Election Commission being stopped by court from verifying official results of Sunday’s election in which voting ballots bear barcodes and QR codes and to have the polling agency hold a new election without use of such electronic apparatus.

The lawsuit urgently lodged by a lawyer, namely Thanu Rungrotreungchai, was accepted for consideration by the Central Administrative Court to the extent that the polling agency may be ordered to not verify and declare the official results of the recent, nationwide election, the court may call it null and void and the polling agency may hold a new election in which no more barcodes or QR codes will exist on voting ballots.

The ballots for party-listed mode were evidently found to bear barcodes whilst those for constituency-based mode bear QR codes which could be electronically, individually scanned to find out what electoral numbers of a candidate and a party one had chosen.

For that reason, the court was asked to see to it that all ballots bearing barcodes and QR codes which had been used at the cost of the voters’ secrecy will be completely destroyed by the polling agency.

A similar petition may be as well lodged to the Office of the Ombudsman who may forward it over the Constitutional Court for final ruling to the extent that the recent, nationwide race to parliament be declared null and void, thus warranting a new election.

The polling agency has earlier announced 94% of all votes had been counted but declined to tell how soon the rest will be done and all results be officially declared whilst the Bhumjaithai, core of the caretaker government and the largest elected party, reportedly emerged as the largest elected party with 193 MPs – 174 elected in constituency-base mode and 19 in party-listed mode.

The ultra-conservative Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob has moved as core of a post-election coalition government with Caretaker Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul retaining his status as head of the executive branch.

Meanwhile, the People’s plans to file a lawsuit to the Central Criminal Court for Corruption & Misconduct against all seven election commissioners and the polling agency’s secretary-general Sawaeng Boonmee on charges of perpetrating negligence of duties and misconduct pertaining to the evident existence of barcodes and QR codes on the voting ballots.
