THE Thai navy discovered six new PMN-2 anti-personnel landmines at Chamrak area, Mueang district, Trat province, during an operation, entitled “Trat Pikhat Phairi” (Trat Annihilates the Enemy), to reclaim and clear this zone yesterday (Feb. 14), Amarin TV said today.
RADM Parach Rattanachaiyapan, the navy’s spokesperson, said investigation confirmed that these mines were newly planted by Cambodians not old ones. Furthermore three PMN-1 mines and one POMZ mine were found nearby while tactical route development took place along the border.
The navy confirmed that Thailand strictly adheres to the Thai-Cambodian Joint Statement issued on Dec. 27, 2025, upholding humanitarian principles and refraining from using or supporting the use of anti-personnel mines under any circumstances.
The use of such landmines, particularly new PMN-2 models, constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and obligations against the use of landmines. Thailand condemns this action and will systematically document the evidence and proceed with legal action within the framework of international mechanisms.
